Canadian skier James Crawford beat Aleksander Aamodt Kilde by a hundredth of a second to claim the men’s super-G title at the Alpine Skiing World Championships on Thursday.
Alexis Pinturault completed the podium at 0.26 seconds, two days after the French skier won the alpine combined at the Worlds, ahead of his family.
Crawford followed Kilde, the pre-race favourite, into the start gate. The Norwegian was at the top of the competition standings at that time.
The Torontonian trailed Kilde at the halfway mark, but he negotiated the final stretch perfectly to take the win and secure the 11e medal — and the fourth gold — in Canadian history at the Alpine Skiing World Championships.
