Primerano was selected in 13and round, 267and overall, by the Vancouver Giants in the WHL Draft. Playing defensively, Primerano became the first skater to be drafted into the CHL.

Goaltender Taya Currie became the first woman to be drafted by a CHL team when the Sarnia Sting set their sights on her in 14and round, at 267and rank, in 2021.

The 15-year-old Primerano, a native of North Vancouver, BC, had two goals and 17 assists in 30 games last season with the Burnaby Winter Club’s U15 program.

“Chloe’s play this season in the top U15 league in Canada has made her selection today fully deserved,” Giants general manager Barclay Parneta said in a statement. The Vancouver Giants are proud to recognize her brilliance by drafting her into the WHL. »

In 2002, goaltender Shannon Szabados became the first woman to play a regular season game in the WHL, playing for the Tri-City Americans.

Three goaltenders have played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including Eve Gascon with the Gatineau Olympiques this season. Gascon was thus following in the footsteps of Manon Rhéaume and Charline Labonté.
