Canadian Grand Prix | Stroll stumbles in qualifying

Montreal’s Lance Stroll of Aston Martin will start Sunday’s race in the second half of the starting grid.

After a lame start in the first qualifying session, at the end of which he narrowly avoided the ax, he failed to win in the second session and suffered elimination. A spin on the wet surface rattled him early on and, although he was able to get back on the road, he never seemed to recover.

At best, he will leave in 13e place, Sunday, although a penalty could be imposed on him after he appeared to block Esteban Ocon in a corner.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez were also eliminated after two sessions.

Surprise: the provisional best time belongs to Alexander Albon, of Williams.
