Canadian flags hoisted for the first time since May

(Ottawa) Canadian flags have been hoisted to the top of federal buildings again for the first time since the end of May.



They were lifted at dusk on Sunday. They will again be placed at half mast on Monday on the occasion of Indigenous Veterans Day, then hoisted to the top of the masts that same evening, at sunset.

On November 11, Remembrance Day, the flags will again be half mast at sunrise.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in May called for the flag to be half-masted after the discovery of what are believed to be anonymous graves on the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia.

The federal government announced on Friday that the Canadian flag on the Peace Tower in Ottawa and on all Government of Canada buildings after discussing it with Indigenous groups

The flags will also be placed at half mast on September 30, on the occasion of National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
