(Toronto) The Canadian financial intelligence agency claims to have been affected by a “cyber incident”.
The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Center of Canada (FINTRAC) says it has taken its organizational systems offline to ensure their integrity and protect the data they retain as a precaution.
The agency indicates in a notice published on its website that the “cyber incident” does not affect FINTRAC’s “information” or “protected systems”.
FINTRAC says it works closely with its federal partners to protect and restore its systems.
The agency declined to provide any comment or information beyond what it had posted on its site.
FINTRAC attempts to identify money linked to illicit activities by electronically sifting through millions of pieces of information each year from banks, insurance companies, money services businesses and others.
