Canadian directors nominated for the 96th Academy Awards

Two Canadian directors are nominated for the 96e Oscar ceremony, which will take place on March 10.

Invincibleby Quebec director Vincent René-Lortie, was selected in the best short film category, while Kill a tigerby Nisha Pahuja was awarded in the best documentary category.

Inspired by a True Story, Invincible tells the last 48 hours of the life of Marc-Antoine Bernier, a young 14-year-old boy who finds himself confronted with his crying need for freedom.

Kill a tiger follows Ranjit’s difficult fight for justice to be done to his 13-year-old daughter, the victim of sexual assault, despite a campaign by villagers and their leaders to have the charges dropped.

The film Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan, about the father of the atomic bomb, is the favorite of the ceremony, with 13 nominations, while the other big triumph of 2023 at the box office, barbie by Greta Gerwig, collected 8.

Poor creaturesby Yorgos Lanthimos, a feature film which depicts a feminine Frankenstein in the Victorian era, was nominated 11 times and Killers of the Flower Moonfilm by Martin Scorsese about the assassinations of Native Americans in Oklahoma at the beginning of the 20th centurye century, in 10 categories.
