The Nigerian scored a hat trick on Wednesday night at Stade Saputo to allow CF Montreal to win 3-0 against Forge FC. The meeting took place as part of the quarter-finals of the Canadian Championship. The Bleu-et-noir therefore advances to the semi-finals of this competition, ultimately qualifying for the Champions League. He will now face Toronto FC, in the Canadian metropolis, at the end of June.

The outcome of Wednesday’s game, which also opposed the brothers Mathieu and David Choinière, was not in doubt for long. Wilfried Nancy’s squad set their pace on the Canadian Premier League (PLC) club from start to finish.

A domination that materialized from the 14and minute. In a typical sequence of the style of play advocated by Nancy, defender Joel Waterman found the breach in the first curtain of the Forge by sending the ball to Matko Miljevic in the middle. The latter did the same by quickly serving Sunusi Ibrahim in front. Two good passes and then go: Ibrahim hit the mark with his right foot in the area.

At the 22and, Ibrahim did it again. Again in favor of a rapid execution of the Bleu-et-noir. The striker received a perfect pass from Kei Kamara after a fine triangle exchange with Miljevic. 2-0 CFM, and he wasn’t going to look back.

Sunusi crowned his beautiful evening of work at the 49and. On a free kick struck by Matko Miljevic – yes, him again – the striker won with a lively head shot into the box. 3-0 Sunusi. Three assists from Miljevic. Near-perfect performance from CF Montreal.

And this, despite a large turnover in the workforce. Djordje Mihailovic, Romell Quioto, Victor Wanyama and Joaquín Torres haven’t stepped onto the pitch, with most of them not even in the line-up. That did not prevent the locals from recording around 60% possession, almost doubling the number of passes, and shooting 16 times against 5 in the direction of the opposing net.

For the record, it was the very first time that Mathieu and David Choinière faced each other. When CFM faced Forge in 2021 in the same competition, neither had made the starting lineup.
