Canadian Athlete of the Year | Damian Warner wins Lou-Marsh Trophy

(Toronto) Decathlete and Olympic champion Damian Warner is the recipient of the Lou-Marsh Trophy, awarded to Canadian athlete of the year.

Warner won the gold medal in the decathlon at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming only the fourth man to collect more than 9,000 points. His 9,018 points allowed him to establish Olympic and Canadian marks.

The 32-year-old Ontarian from London is the first Canadian to win Olympic gold in this discipline.

Members of the media from across the country voted on Wednesday for the award, presented annually by the Toronto Star.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies were elected last year.
