Canadian Armed Forces | Retired general charged with sexual assault

(OTTAWA) Canada’s top military officer says military police have charged retired Lt. Gen. Trevor Cadieu, who is believed to be currently in Ukraine, with two counts of sexual assault.

Canadian Forces Provost Marshal Brigadier-General Simon Trudeau says the charges relate to incidents that allegedly took place in 1994 at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont.

Trudeau says the military police opted to press charges after their civilian counterparts decided not to accept the case as the investigation was nearing completion.

Trevor Cadieu was supposed to take over as commander of the Canadian Army last September, but his appointment was put on hold due to a military police investigation.

He retired in early April as the investigation continued. Sources not authorized to comment on his whereabouts said he traveled to Ukraine to help fight the Russian invasion.

Trevor Cadieu has previously denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations were false but should be investigated.
