Canada wins two bronze medals in bobsleigh

(Winterberg) Canada captured bronze in both the monobob and the four-a-side on Saturday at the Bobsleigh World Cup in Winterberg, Germany.



Torontonian Cynthia Appiah climbed to third on the podium in a combined time of one minute and 58.24 seconds in the monobob. His compatriot Justin Kripps took his crew to bronze in the four-man bobsleigh after setting a time of 1: 48.09.

American Elana Meyers Taylor triumphed in the monobob in 1: 57.83, ahead of Australia’s Breeana Walker in 1: 58.06.

Melissa Lotholz of Barrhead, Alta., Followed in sixth, while Christine de Bruin of Stony Plain, Alta., Was ninth.

Meanwhile, Kripps and his teammates Ben Coakwell, Ryan Sommer and Cam Stones climbed to the podium after finishing second in the first run and fifth in the second.

The team of Germany’s Francsco Friedrich took gold in 1: 47.95, ahead of his compatriot Johannes Lochner in 1: 48.00.

Chris Spring of Vancouver settled for 13e echelon.
