Michelle Plouffe had seven points, four rebounds and five blocks for Canada. His sister, Katherine, had six points and seven rebounds.
Hortense Limouzin hit a jump shot that gave France a three-point lead with less than a minute to go, but Katherine Plouffe replied to close the gap to two points.
Michelle Plouffe deflected the ball off the line at a Frenchwoman to restore possession to Canada with 17.2 seconds left. The Canadians, however, were unable to score.
Marie-Ève Paget was fouled and confirmed France’s victory with a free throw with 3.1 seconds left.
It was France’s first gold at the event and the first silver for the Canadians, who advanced to the final by defeating Lithuania 16-14 on Saturday.
“Canada has a really, really good team,” Paget said. You don’t make it to the final if you don’t have a very good team. We had played against them in friendlies before the World Cup and suffered two defeats. This is our revenge. »
