The French team was not particularly reassured, Sunday June 9, against Canada (0-0) for its last preparation match before the Euro. In Bordeaux, without Kylian Mbappé, left on the bench at the start of the game, the Blues were not dangerous offensively against a well-grouped Canucks defense.

In this average collective performance, William Saliba, author of a great performance in central defense, scored points. Olivier Giroud, captain at kick-off, seemed tense and missed his encounter.

Mike Maignan: 5/10

He was helpless when Liam Millar’s strike hit the crossbar in the 47th minute. Apart from that, not much to eat for the French goalkeeper, who is taking the opportunity to find playing time after a season punctuated by injuries. Before serious things begin in eight days.

Jules Koundé: 6/10

The Barcelona player was strong at the right-back position. In the first half, neither Liam Millar nor Alphonso Davies put him in danger. On the other hand, he was a little tight on Millar in the 47th minute for the Canadian’s shot on the crossbar. Koundé did the job, with some interesting crosses when he projected himself offensively, but above all he was reassuring at the back.

William Saliba: 7.5/10

The Arsenal player was excellent. Not only did he ensure each of his restarts, but his defensive interventions saved the Blues from an unwelcome disappointment a few days before the Euro. His perfect tackle in front of Jonathan David in the 66th minute, not to mention the one against Jonathan Osorio in the 79th minute when the Canadian only had to finish in front of Maignan, showed all his class.

The 23-year-old central defender wants to shake up Deschamps’ hierarchy and secure a starting place in eight days, and he presented serious guarantees this Sunday.

Dayot Upamecano: 6/10

Very close to scoring on a header in the 34th minute, Dayot Upamecano was never really in danger defensively either. His pair with Saliba worked well. Replaced by Ibrahima Konaté at the hour mark.

Théo Hernandez: 6/10

The left back made several interesting climbs on his left side in the first half, an appreciable overtaking of his function. Replaced at the break by Ferland Mendy (5/10) due to a knee contusion. A precautionary measure, we hope, on the part of Deschamps.

N’Golo Kanté: 5.5/10

After a little more than 60 minutes played against Luxembourg, Kanté this time played the entire match against Canada. One more sign which could make us say that the coach of the Blues is indeed considering his start against Austria on June 17. Close to the goal in the 8th minute but in check on a strong shot on Crépeau, the midfielder was still active in the recovery but also showed a little waste in his forward play.

Eduardo Camavinga: 5.5/10

Coming into play at the very end of the match against Luxembourg, Eduardo Camavinga played the entire match on Sunday. His complementarity with Kanté in the midfield was interesting. Responsible for directing the game, the Madrilenian still lost several balls and made a few mistakes, earning him a yellow in the 40th minute.

Antoine Griezmann: 5.5/10

Positioned behind Giroud at the start of the match, Antoine Griezmann was interesting before losing influence as the match progressed. His perfect back cross for Thuram in the 9th minute could have been rewarded with an assist, but the Interist failed on the bar. Replaced by Randal Kolo Muani in the 87th minute, who missed a big header in stoppage time.

Ousmane Dembélé: 6/10

The Parisian was the most active during the first act in his right lane. It is he who perfectly shifts Kanté in the 8th minute. It’s him again who makes a festival in the 19th minute before serving Griezmann in the center for his shot. But he ran out of steam after returning from the locker room. Replaced by Kylian Mbappé in the 74th minute, who fired a nice shot at the very end of the game.

Marcus Thuram: 5/10

Apart from his strike on the bar in the 9th minute on a low cross from Griezmann, we didn’t see much of him. Positioned in the left lane, he moved a lot in the axis towards Giroud, which was able to leave some space for Hernandez in the first period on his side. Replaced by Coman in the 74th, author of an excellent cross for Kolo Muani at the end of the match.

Olivier Giroud: 4/10

Evening captain for his last match in France with the Blues, the top scorer in the history of the French team often seemed frustrated when he was not served in good conditions by his partners. He also tensed up, repeatedly scolding the referee for several fouls against him. Giroud missed two not-so-simple close range attempts in the 56th minute. Replaced at the hour mark by Bradley Barcola.
