One more step was taken towards the founding of a women’s professional soccer league in the country on Saturday. Canada Soccer has announced the appointment of Breagha Carr-Harris to lead this long-awaited project.

Carr-Harris, with 15 years of experience in sports, has worked for all six Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment teams: Toronto FC, Maple Leafs, Raptors, Argos, Marlies and 905 .
Its mandate is clear: “the development of professional women’s soccer” in Canada.
“More than ever, women’s professional soccer deserves its rightful place in this country,” Canada Soccer President Nick Bontis said in a statement. We are very pleased to welcome Breagha Carr-Harris to this newly created role which will be essential to the advancement of our sport. »
“She will chair the new Women’s Professional Soccer Task Force which will draw on the expertise of our Women’s National Team Head Coach, Bev Priestman, former National Team players, leagues and more. provincial and territorial high performance and business community,” adds Bontis.
Carr-Harris said she recognizes “the dedication, commitment and support of Canada Soccer and the players and leaders of our country at all levels.” She also says she is “very happy that we are in a position to have a discussion on how to establish women’s professional sport in Canada. »
Canada Soccer, in its press release, mentions that “the main objective of this position is to promote a strong Canadian identity and to prioritize the development of promising young Canadian women”.
The federation says it “intends to elevate the level of competition and provide viable role models to inspire the next generation of players, coaches, referees and administrators across Canada.”
Canada Soccer announced the opening of this position on February 16. She says she hired Breagha Carr-Harris following an “extensive international search”.
