Canada Revenue Agency | 185 employees dismissed to date for claiming the PCU without being entitled to it

(Ottawa) The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says 185 employees have been fired to date for claiming a federal pandemic-related benefit when they were not entitled to it.

This is 65 more employees than the CRA’s last report, in September.

The federal agency is reviewing approximately 600 files from current employees who had received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This $2,000 per month benefit was intended for Canadians whose jobs had been lost or reduced due to public health restrictions.

The CRA says that just because a person was employed by the agency does not mean they were not necessarily eligible for the benefit, given that some employees had temporary or temporary contracts. students.

Among all the cases examined so far, it turns out that 116 employees who received the CERB were actually entitled to it.

The CRA specifies that those who were not entitled to it will have to repay the money, if they have not already done so.
