(Ottawa) Canada Post is unveiling a stamp on Thursday celebrating the achievements of Donald Sutherland, a Canadian screen legend.
Donald Sutherland, who is 88 years old, has a career that spans seven decades. He is one of the most prolific and versatile actors of his generation.
Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Donald Sutherland graduated in engineering and theater from the University of Toronto. He moved to England in the late 1950s; he was seen in several British television shows of the 1960s, including Suspense, The Saint and Bowler Hat and Leather Boots.

Donald Sutherland got his first film role in 1963, but his breakthrough came when he played the killer character Vernon Pinkley in Twelve bastardsin 1967.
We saw it in MASH, a critically acclaimed commercial success. He also participated in the productions of great filmmakers such as Federico Fellini and Nicolas Roeg.
Most recently, he played the character President Snow in the franchise Hunger Gamesfrom 2012 to 2015.
Canada Post reports that Donald Sutherland’s great international success did not prevent him from remaining a proud Canadian and returning to his native country to perform in productions such as The act of the heart in 1970, The threshold in 1981, The art of War in 2000, as well as in the feature film Bethune, the makings of a heroin 1990.
Donald Sutherland received a Genie Award in 1983, an Emmy Award in 1995, and a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Achievement in 2000. He has been nominated for nine Golden Globes awards and won two.
His star shines on Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was named Companion of the Order of Canada in 2019 and Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic in 2012.
