(Ottawa) Statistics Canada says manufacturing sales fell 2.1% to $69.6 billion in June, as sales in the transportation equipment, chemicals and primary metals subsectors declined.
Overall, the federal agency says sales fell in 17 of 21 subsectors.
Sales in the transportation equipment subsector fell 2.9% to $11.0 billion in June, while sales of motor vehicle parts declined 5.6%. Manufacturing of aerospace products and parts declined 2.9%.
The chemicals subsector fell 5.8% to 5.2 billion, due to lower sales of pesticides, fertilizers and other agricultural chemicals.
The primary metal processing subsector saw its sales decrease by 2.7% to 5.5 billion.
Statistics Canada says total manufacturing sales in constant dollars fell 2.1% in June.
