“Invincible Courage” will be the theme of the Canadian team taking part in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Radio-Canada, which owns the broadcasting rights, unveiled their campaign on Friday.
Nine athletes will be featured, including Quebecers Hugo Houle (cycling) and Maude Charron (weightlifting). Sprinter Andre De Grasse will also be on display, as will Oklahoma City Thunder basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Singer Céline Dion and actor Michael J. Fox were chosen to provide narration.
The Paris Games are scheduled for July 26 to August 11.
The slogan “Invincible Courage” aims to rally Canadians behind their compatriots who will participate in the Olympics by revealing the obstacles they have overcome to compete on the international stage, the COC said Friday in a press release.
Other athletes highlighted are gymnast Ellie Black, swimmer Maggie Mac Neil, wrestler Justina Di Stasio, breakdancer Phil Wizard and taekwondo artist Skylar Park.
“I had to completely change my training and preparation in order to move to a lower weight category,” said Charron, an Olympic champion. It was a big challenge for me. However, I have adapted and am preparing to be stronger than ever and show the world what I am made of. I am so happy to represent my country on the world stage and I hope that my story will serve as an inspiration to Canadians to continue pushing towards achieving their goals. »
