(Welland) Jaida Lee made Canada Games history Monday by becoming the first female athlete to compete in the competition’s men’s baseball tournament.

Lee pitched for an inning and a third for Newfoundland and Labrador in a 17-7 loss to Alberta in the first of several games on the day.
The 16-year-old from the capital city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Lee didn’t concede a run in the fourth inning. Alberta reacted in the fifth, however, with a six-point outburst that put the game out of reach.
Lee had been the flag bearer for Newfoundland and Labrador at the opening ceremonies of the Games.
The ball she threw will be on display at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s, Ontario.
In other competitions presented on Monday, Quebec collected four medals including two gold. Mathis Beaulieu won the sprint triathlon event in 57 minutes 43 seconds, all in difficult weather conditions.
The 18-year-old from Quebec City, Beaulieu is on a roll, winning his fourth straight gold medal.
In the men’s mountain-cross-country bike event, brothers Maxime and Charles-Antoine Saint-Onge took the first two places.
Maxime, who is 16 years old, stopped the clock in one hour four minutes 15 seconds, two seconds ahead of his brother, five years his senior.
In the women’s section of this competition, Marie-Fay St-Onge placed third in 1:23:59. Marie-Fay is the sister of Maxime and Charles-Antoine.
