Canada expected to win 22 medals, including six gold, at the Paris Olympics

Canada is expected to win a total of 22 medals, including six gold, at the Paris Summer Olympics, which begin in 100 days.

This forecast is produced by Nielsen’s Gracenote Sports, which provides statistical analysis for sports leagues around the world. The company also analyzes major competitions involving Olympic sports leading up to the Olympics.

Gracenote Sports reviews quantify the total number of medals won, while other companies do it based on the number of gold medals.

Unsurprisingly, the United States and China are expected to monopolize the top two rungs of the medal rankings.

The United States is expected to earn a total of 123 medals, including 39 gold. China is expected to follow with 89 medals, including 35 gold. These two countries also dominated both categories three years ago, during the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

The United States would top the medal standings for the eighth time in Summer Games history. At the 1992 Barcelona Games, the “unified team” dominated the medal rankings. These athletes came from the former Soviet Union, which had collapsed a few months earlier.

The last time the United States did not finish first in the medal standings at the Summer Games was in Beijing in 2008, after China invested heavily to achieve success.

The countries that will follow behind the United States and China are, in order: Great Britain (66 medals-13 gold), France (55-28), Australia (50-13), Japan (49-13), Italy (47-12), the Netherlands (38-18), Germany (36-9) and South Korea (24-9).

The next 10 countries are: Canada (22-6), Spain (20-5), Hungary (19-5), Brazil (18-9), Turkey (13-4), Ethiopia (13-3), Uzbekistan (13-3), Ukraine (13-3), Georgia (12-3) and Denmark (11-5).

The host country usually performs much better than usual, and France should see a marked increase in its medal count compared to the 33 won in Tokyo in 2021. France will likely triple its number of gold medals compared to Tokyo Olympics, where Japan itself obtained a record harvest.

This observation is partly explained by the desire of the host country to invest massively to achieve success in front of its population.

France will also participate in 25 different disciplines in Paris, up from its average which fluctuated between 15 and 19 during the last Olympics, according to analysis by Gracenote Sports.
