Canada draw with Nigeria in first World Cup outing

Canada tied 0-0 with Nigeria in their opening game of the Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made several important saves, including against Christine Sinclair on a penalty shot.

It was a crucial moment missed by the Canadian athlete, who leads all-time goalscorers in international soccer, both men and women, with 190 goals.

Sinclair got his shot in the 50e minute of play. Nnadozie dove to his left to make the save.

It was a fine attempt from Sinclair, but an even better save from the keeper, who plays for Paris FC in France.

The Canadian player finished her match in the 71e minute of action.

Jessie Fleming, who usually takes penalty shots for Canada, was on the team bench, she was in no condition to play.

Canada’s keeper also made a few important saves, including one from near the penalty area, in the 80e minute.

Both teams got good chances to score in the last 20 minutes of the match, but without success.
