(OTTAWA) Ottawa police promise the upcoming Canada Day will be “unique and unprecedented” in terms of police presence in the city.

Posted at 3:07 p.m.

This will be the first Canada Day where the Ottawa Police Service will be the primary police force responsible for security.

Police and the Department of Canadian Heritage held a technical security briefing on Friday for the 1er July. However, the names of the participants in this session cannot be revealed.

Canadian Heritage has indicated that the celebrations will take place mainly in Parc des Plaines-LeBreton, in Ottawa, and at Place des Festivals in Gatineau.

Ottawa police will be able to count on the support of other police forces, but details regarding security plans have not been revealed.

Ottawa and Gatineau police officers must also be prepared for groups opposed to COVID-19 health measures to demonstrate on Parliament Hill and in the federal capital’s downtown area on 1er July.
