Canada announces roster for Billie Jean King Cup

Tennis Canada has announced that Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Annie Fernandez, Rebecca Marino and Gabriela Dabrowski have been selected for Team Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier against Belgium on April 14-15 in Vancouver.

Andreescu, 36e World Championship, will play a Billie Jean King Cup match in Canada for the first time since 2018. The Ontarian has dropped nine places in her ranking since the start of the season, in particular thanks to a participation in the semi-final of the Thailand Open in February.

Since the start of the season, Fernandez, 49e world, has played in singles and doubles and even has a final, having reached the title match of the ASB Classic with American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The 20-year-old Lavalloise has won eight of her eleven games at the Billie Jean King Cup. This will be his seventh meeting with the Canadian team.

Marino, who re-entered the Top 100 for the first time since 2012, is at the top of his game. In February, during the Abierto GNP Seguros, she won the 300e win of his career on the WTA Tour.

Marino, whose record is seven wins and eight losses at the Billie Jean King Cup, is preparing to participate in his ninth meeting and his second ahead of his fellow citizens.

In addition to bringing together its best singles players, the Canadian team can also count on its most formidable doubles player.

Dabrowski, whose honor roll includes two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, sits 6e double world rank.

Canada will face Belgium for the fourth time and will be looking for a first victory. The winners of this meeting will qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals next November.
