Canada and the Netherlands have taken Damascus to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over allegations of ‘torture’, the court announced on Monday, the first case before the UN’s highest court on Syria’s civil war. .
The ICJ, which sits in The Hague, said in a statement that the Dutch and Canadians accuse Syria of violating a UN convention against “torture and other cruel treatment or punishment”, including “the use of chemical weapons”.
