Historically on the left, the 6th constituency of the Gironde was won in 2017 by Eric Poulliat, candidate of the presidential party. This former PS had beaten the socialist Marie Récalde, who was the outgoing deputy and who is not standing this year. Vanessa Fergeau-Renaux (NUPES) was nominated. According to Jean Petaux, a political scientist in Bordeaux: “He is someone who is well established in Mérignac. His father was mayor of Saint-Jean-d’Illac and his grandfather was deputy to Michel Sainte-Marie, former mayor of Mérignac“.
For Jean Petaux, Eric Poulliat remains the favorite for this election “especially since in this constituency, Emmanuel Macron made 33.69% in the first round of the presidential election. And Jean-Luc Mélenchon is far behind with 20.9%. And the total NUPES is 32%. We will clearly say that this constituency is heading towards a duel with the PS“.
