Faced with the health situation in Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, which records nearly 65,000 new cases of Covid-19 per day, the French are wondering about the consequences of this fifth wave in Europe.

For several weeks, France has seen its incidence rate gradually rise. Today, it even exceeds the alert threshold in many departments, such as Ardèche or Haute-Corse, where it exceeds 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Faced with this new wave, is France better prepared than its neighbors? Yes for the moment according to some epidemiologists, thanks to the vaccination campaign which continues to progress.

126,000 vaccine booster doses are performed each day. The vaccination rate in France is among the best in Europe. “It’s a little different in France, compared to Germany or Austria, because there is more than ten points of difference in terms of vaccination, and so that changes everything.“Says Dr. Martin Blachier, epidemiologist. Currently, 1,353 people are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. This is 14% more than last week, but much less than during previous peaks.
