SNCF: can agents be prohibited from striking on certain days?

(France 2)

MP Hervé Marseille proposes banning railway workers from striking on certain days. This proposed law is inspired by a model that exists in other European countries.

A proposed law plans to prohibit railway workers from striking on certain days. “A little more supervision would be better”, for Marion Doumax, SNCF user. Transport workers could be deprived of their right to strike 30 days a year. This could concern certain weekends, including vacations, or elections and sporting events. For most users, the right to strike should be preserved. “It’s a right that has been acquired for years, I don’t see why we should remove it”explains a woman.

A measure that would not apply for the Olympics

In Germany, Spain and Italy, railway workers’ right to strike is regulated. Hervé Marseille, senators (Centrist Union) of Hauts-de-Seine at the initiative of this bill, is inspired by these rules. “Why wouldn’t it work for us?”, he asks. The government does not wish to implement this measure before the Olympic Games.
