Canada’s Camryn Rogers won the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw event on Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.
On her fifth attempt, Rogers saw her throw fly 76.97 metres to take first place from American Annette Nneka Echikunwoke.
Echikunwoke, who threw the penultimate throw of the competition, was unable to improve on her score of 75.48 metres and edge out Rogers. She still won the silver medal with her season-high.
China’s Jie Zhao took the bronze medal with a throw of 74.27 metres on her second attempt.
Camryn Rogers is the reigning world champion, having thrown a winning throw of 77.22 metres in Budapest, Hungary in August 2023.
Two days ago, Canadian Ethan Katzberg won the gold medal in the men’s hammer throw event, with a throw of 84.12 metres.
