The word soup will disappear from the company’s name. Known for its canned tomato soups and cream of mushroom soups, the company will now be called The Campbell’s Company, CEO Mark Clouse announced at its investor day, Reuters reported..
“Today, we are much more than soup,” Clouse said in explaining the decision.
“This subtle but important change preserves the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the breadth of the company’s portfolio,” Clouse said in a statement Tuesday.
Campbell’s wants to focus its energies on the 16 major brands in its meals and beverage division, including the popular Goldfish, V8 juices and Prego sauces.
According to CNN, snack sales increased 13% last year, compared to a 3% increase in the soup aisle.
