campaigning in Iowa, Donald Trump puts on a show (and makes fun of Emmanuel Macron)

The presidential election on November 5 in the United States will be one of the major votes of the year 2024. Donald Trump, who is preparing his return, was on the campaign trail this weekend in Iowa before the primaries. Two meetings and a promise for the former president: “save America”.

He returns, true to himself, with wispy locks, artificially tanned complexion and brutal words. In two disjointed speeches lasting more than two hours each, delivered in front of excited fans, Donald Trump occupies the field and puts on a show. His favorite target? The current tenant of the White House, described, during a meeting in Iowa on Saturday January 6, as “Joe-the-Scoundrel“, of “corrupt president“, “weak” And “incompetent“.”If Biden is re-elected“, Donald Trump told his audience, “We will be on the brink of the Great Depression (like in the 1930s) and World War III.”.

Nothing is written, it is not yet certain that Biden and Trump will be the protagonists of the November 5 duel, but the billionaire acts “as if” and slips into his candidate-comedian costume, populist tendency.

Emmaneul Macron, “a nice guy” but…

Besides, it’s not just Joe Biden who is taking his position. Donald Trump makes fun of everyone, including Emmanuel Macron. You know that he likes to present himself as the king of negotiation capable of making his foreign counterparts bend in two movements… On stage, he replays a telephone exchange which would have taken place a few years ago at the time of tensions trade between France and the United States.

Macron… do you know Macron? A nice guy… really very nice… But I say to him: Emmanuel! So you want to tax American companies up to 25%? It’s not possible ! If you do this then you will pay 100% customs duties on all wines and champagnes shipped to the United States starting tonight!

All while imitating the accent of the French president who, to hear him, would have given in within a few minutes. “Conclusion” said Donald Trump, “it was too easy“.

Not enough to reassure European leaders, for whom his return to power would be synonymous, beyond the passing of arms and verbal provocations, of a step backwards which could shake up the fate of Ukraine and world security. But Donald Trump doesn’t care. Caricature and boasting, nothing has changed. Despite being criminally indicted four times and found ineligible by two supreme courts in Maine and Colorado, he still believes he is “the only candidate capable of saving America“.”For the 3rd time, I will win“. His strategy is to drag out his affairs as long as possible – ideally until the day after the presidential election which will allow him, if he wins, to order the outright dropping of the federal charges against him.

No mea culpa on the invasion of the Capitol

The former Republican president still considers that the victory was stolen from him four years ago. No mea culpa on the storming of the capitol: Donald Trump once again denied having called his supporters to insurrection on January 6, 2021. More than 900 people have already pleaded guilty or been sentenced for entering Congress by force. Three were even killed on Saturday January 6, three years to the day after the invasion.

He does not hesitate to qualify them “hostages” and to demand their release, also ensuring that he would pardon each of the people prosecuted for their participation in the insurrection.

The bigger it is, the more it’s acceptable. According to a survey by Washington Post and the University of Maryland, a quarter of Americans and 44% of Trump voters believe – as he suggested – that it is actually the FBI which is behind this attack on the temple of democracy American. Donald Trump is still ahead in the polls.
