Cammas and Caudrelier, undisputed leaders of the Ultim on the Transat Jacques Vabre

The maxi trimaran Edmond de Rothschild of Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier arrived in turn this Tuesday morning in the bay of Fort-de-France in Martinique. The duo won the Transat Jacques Vabre in their Ultim category. This is Franck Cammas’ 4th victory on the coffee route after a race from start to finish from Spain. Sébastien Rogues and Matthieu Souben’s Ocean Fifty Primonial symbolically grilled their politeness at the finish line by arriving a few hours earlier. But the course of the 15-meter trimarans was shorter (9,300 km) than the 32-meter long Ultim and faster (12,000 km).

The two skippers will have taken 16 days 1 hour 49 minutes and 16 seconds to cover the 7,500 theoretical miles from Le Havre at an average speed of 20.51 knots. Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier beat Banque Populaire XI by Armel Le Cléac’h and Kevin Escoffier expected later this Tuesday, and SVR Lazartigue by François Gabart and Tom Laperche.

The first three Imoca monohulls, Linkedout by Thomas Rettant and Morgan Lagravière, Apivia by Charlie Dalin and Paul Meilhat and Charal by Jérémie Beyou and Christopher Pratt, are still expected this Thursday in Fort-de-France.

In view of extremely tense health and social context on the island – the race village was peacefully invaded on Monday – all fragile equipment was removed and the first 3 Ocean Fifty to arrive this Monday evening spent the night in safety in the port of Fort-de-France.
