Camif launches furniture rental

The e-commerce company specializing in home furnishings thus intends to “consume differently”.

More and more of us want to change our consumption habits in favor of made in France, if possible in short circuits and as much as possible recyclable: in short, eco-responsible consumption. This is what prompted Camif to offer this new furniture rental service which will initially only concern furniture for babies and children’s bedrooms.

Why specifically this furniture? Because these are elements that change a lot, by definition with the age of the child. Rather than buying expensive furniture that we may part with quickly, you might as well rent it.

Certified origin and quality

These are pieces of furniture built specifically for rental. Originally new, they are designed to withstand changing hands and numerous trips. These are products made in France, like almost 80% of the 20,000 items offered in its general catalogue. Camif is committed to this and allows its customers to verify. The material history of all items is traceable by customers on the Internet through an appropriate record.

This new rental service is billed from 49 euros per month per pack, up to 90 euros. The pack includes a child’s or baby’s bed, the mattress and, depending on the choice, a chest of drawers, a changing table or a mini desk, shelf, etc. In short, an entire small room.

second hand market

Camif – at the time, we said “the” Camif – was bought in 2008 by a young entrepreneur, Emery Jacquillat, who changed the concept and made it a company with a mission: to supply eco-responsible items. Before being transformed by its buyer into an online trading company, Camif – founded in 1947 – was in its beginnings the Cooperative of members of the mutual insurance fund for teachers in France.

Camif has completely changed profile and profession, it was a subsidiary of Maif that bought it last year. The Niort-based company now employs 90 people, achieves a turnover close to 45 million euros, and is therefore strengthening its position in the second-hand market.
