Monday August 1st is a sad date for the textile company Camaïeu. The company was placed in receivership. Martin Vanlaton takes stock before the Commercial Court of Lille, in the North.
Camaïeu, a French company eminently known in the world of ready-to-wear and which employs 2,571 employees, has been placed in receivership. “The announcement was made at the very end of the morning. In a press release, the group’s management says that it takes note of this decision and explains that it is working now on the continuation plan to preserve the company’s activity.“, reports Martin Vanlaton. The company had however been taken over by Financière Immobilière Bordelaise two years ago.
The partial takeover of the brand had enabled Camaïeu to survive and continue its activity in 2020. “Businessman Michel Ohayon had taken over 511 of the 634 stores and around 2,600 employees out of more than 3,100. He then gave himself two years to revive the company and modernize it, but nothing went as planned”explains Martin Vanlaton. The context has complicated this recovery with the pandemic which has generated fewer people in stores. In addition, Camaïeu was the victim of a cyberattack. “Since August 2021, the group no longer pays part of its rents”reveals Martin Vanlaton.
