The ready-to-wear giant Camaïeu was placed in receivership on Monday August 1 by the Lille commercial court, its management announced to AFP. The sign was in default of payment two years after its takeover by Financière immobilière bordelaise.
“We take note of the decision of the court which pronounces the opening of a receivership procedure at the request of Camaieu”, wrote the management of Camaieu. The brand, which employs 2,571 people, says it works “from now on to the continuation plan”. She says her goal is “to preserve the activity of the company and the Camaieu brand”.
According to Thierry Siwik, CGT delegate of Camaïeu, the management “sent a letter in June 2021 to dozens of donors concerning, according to our information, between 250 and 300” stores, to advertise “a suspension of the payment of rent due to a ‘force majeure’“. “The management told the CSE that it was trying to renegotiate the rents”following the Covid-19 pandemic and a general drop in traffic to clothing stores, but “today” she “will have to pay”he continued.
In three judgments, the Court of Cassation has in fact obliged traders to pay unpaid rent during the period when non-essential businesses were closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. It considers that the situation was not attributable to the lessors and had not permanently deprived the traders of using their premises.
