The 2,600 employees of Camaïeu will be out of work at the end of the day, Saturday October 1st. The saga of the popular ready-to-wear brand, which began in 1984, is coming to an end. The brand has experienced a succession of difficulties and has not managed to escape judicial liquidation.
It is the last day of opening, Saturday October 1, for a Camaïeu store in Saint-Omer (Pas-de-Calais). Lucie Deu, the manager, worked there for 18 years as a saleswoman. In the evening, like her 2,600 colleagues, she will be unemployed. “It’s loaded with work, loaded with emotion. We will do our best to satisfy our customers until the end, since it is our priority“, she says. Discounts up to – 50% are applied throughout the store. Customers are numerous at the checkouts, with a last word for their saleswomen. “It hurts the heart for all the employees who will lose their jobs”says a buyer.
For customers accustomed to the sign, it is also a page that turns. “It was good this little store, because it was a bit for all budgets“, confides a woman. In total, more than 500 stores will close their doors in France. In Douai (North), a queue formed in the morning. Customers came to show their support. “I saw that all the clothes that were sold today were reverse for employees“, notes a customer. The State has undertaken to support the reclassification of all employees.
