(Sacramento) California Governor Gavin Newsom has indicated he could impose mandatory water restrictions if people don’t start cutting back as a drought drags on.

He raised the possibility Monday during a meeting with local water agencies that supply major urban centers like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The Democratic governor has called for a voluntary 15% reduction in water consumption. So far, he has avoided the imposition of mandatory and sweeping cuts. An approach that could be about to change following a dramatic increase in water consumption observed in March.
Gavin Newsom urges local water agencies to step up their conservation messages to avoid having to resort to mandatory restrictions.
