Calgary World Cup | Canada wins three medals in freestyle skiing halfpipe

(Calgary) Canadians Brendan Mackay and Simon d’Artois won the silver and bronze medals respectively in the halfpipe event at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Calgary on Thursday.


Mackay finished the event with a score of 94.50 while d’Artois collected 93.00 points.

Finland’s Jon Sallinen took the top step of the podium with a score of 96.00 points.

On the women’s side, Canada’s Rachael Karker won the silver medal after posting a score of 89.00.

Chinese Eileen Gu won the event with 95.00 points while American Hanna Faulhaber took the bronze medal (77.25).

Gu did not compete at the first World Cup of the season, which took place in December in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Karker had triumphed.

Born in the United States, Gu rose to international stardom at the Beijing Olympics, where she won gold in the halfpipe and the long jump, as well as a silver medal in the slopestyle.

Competition continues Saturday in Calgary for the third of four World Cups this season.
