She wants Montreal to exercise leadership in this group, by showing how her administration is tackling climate change “by thinking outside the box”, in particular by implementing its climate plan, which requires the participation of various City partners to achieve GHG reduction objectives.
“It’s really interesting to discuss among ourselves and share good practices,” she noted on Wednesday, during the meeting of the executive committee. “Often, it is the cities that are on the front line and hear the testimonies of the population struggling with the impacts of climate change and who are the first to suffer. »
The C40 discussions will focus on the place of nature in the city, biodiversity and ways to achieve GHG reduction targets, in particular.
Valérie Plante sees this meeting as a prelude to COP15, which will take place in December in Montreal, when heads of state from around the world will meet to find solutions to the loss of biodiversity.
Mme Plante intends to take advantage of COP15 to emphasize that cities must be “around the table, with States”. “Because in the end, it is we who have to find very concrete, very effective, agile solutions to the situations that our citizens are experiencing,” she points out.
