C-3PO’s head at auction for a million dollars?

The head of the iconic robot C-3PO, used in the episode Return of the Jedi (1983) from the saga Star Wars, is on display in California as its auction approaches.

“This is a wonderful piece because it is intact, in exactly the same condition as when filming was completed in 1983. You can see the original gold plating and wear from filming. We estimate the value of this piece between 500,000 and one million US dollars,” explains Brandon Alinger, director of operations at the Prop Store auction house.

The “unrestored” head comes from the personal collection of the actor who played the robot, Anthony Daniels. The fact that the item has not been restored increases its value, according to the auction house.

“The good thing is that we can find the exact shots and scenes from the film in the Forest of Endor where this head was used. Filming took place in the redwood forest in northern California. There are shots of C-3PO in the film. When you freeze the frame, you can see exactly this finish on the front and the small chips on the back, Alinger points out. We can say that it is this head, there is no doubt, that was used in the film. »

The sale will take place on March 12 in Los Angeles.
