The person spoke on condition of anonymity on Sunday because the contract is not yet finalized and is undergoing a successful physical exam.

Buxton posted a bird’s eye photo of Target Field on his Instagram account and added a heart. The Twins still held his rights for another season, raising the possibility of a trade or losing him in the free agent market.

Despite a few skirmishes in the negotiations, which were complicated by Buxton’s injury history which significantly limited his availability for the Twins, the 27-year-old never wanted to leave the organization.

Buxton joined the Twins right out of high school after being the second overall pick in the 2012 Draft.

Buxton has played over 92 games just once in seven seasons in Major League Baseball. It happened in 2017, when he played 140 games and won the Golden Glove.

In the last season, Buxton slammed 23 doubles and 19 homers in just 235 home goals. He showed a batting average of .306 and a power percentage of .647.

Buxton underwent a strained right hip in May. Then, in mid-June, in his third game after returning to play, he was hit in the hand by a throw and he broke his left little finger.
