Picture an electric vehicle that can recharge in a mere five minutes. This is the groundbreaking promise of the new BYD Han L, positioning itself as the world’s fastest charging electric car. Tesla Model S, take note!
Design Similarities with the Han
When it comes to its exterior, the BYD Han L doesn’t stray far from its predecessor. This sedan maintains a resemblance to the classic BYD Han, as confirmed by the brand’s official communications. Measuring 5.05 meters in length, it is an additional 6 cm longer than the standard Han. Its dimensions include a width of 1.96 meters and a height of 1.50 meters, while its generous 2.97-meter wheelbase ensures ample space, comparable to top-tier European luxury sedans.
The design features a gently sloping hood paired with a modest grille, alongside headlights borrowed from the original Han. A noticeable lidar system is integrated into the roof, enhancing its tech-savvy appeal. A stylish line flows from the front fender to the door handle, with the latter seamlessly integrated into the body to improve aerodynamics.
At the rear, the vehicle features distinctive lights dubbed “Feng Ling,” inspired by the elegant shape of phoenix wings, and a sleek light strip spans across the back, aligning with modern design trends.
Luxurious Interior Experience
Step inside the BYD Han L and experience an exceptionally inviting interior, made possible by its extended wheelbase. The 2.97-meter space ensures that four adults can sit comfortably, enjoying luxurious leather seating throughout. The front seats offer a premium experience with electric adjustments, heating, massage functions, and ventilation, while rear passengers benefit from a touch control panel and an integrated refrigerator.
To enhance comfort, all four windows are double-glazed, providing excellent sound insulation. Additional features include a fragrance diffuser, wireless smartphone charging, a high-quality Dynaudio sound system, and an advanced driving assistant known as “God’s Eye.”
In terms of technology, the vehicle boasts a 15.6-inch touchscreen for infotainment, accompanied by a more compact digital display located behind the steering wheel. BYD has opted for a design that separates the instrumentation from the central screen, creating a sense of openness that avoids the enclosed feeling some might find off-putting.
Impressive Charging Capabilities
The standout feature of the BYD Han L is its innovative platform. Built on the cutting-edge BYD Super E architecture, it operates on a 1,000 V system, allowing the battery to support 1,000 A and 1,000 kW. These specifications enable drivers to regain 400 km of range in just five minutes.
This remarkable 10C battery technology allows for recharge times that rival traditional fuel refills. BYD is also planning to implement a network of 4,000 charging stations, capable of delivering up to 1,360 kW, ensuring it remains the quickest charging car on the market.
Performance-wise, two configurations are available: a rear-wheel-drive version featuring a robust 670-horsepower rear motor, and an all-wheel-drive variant with dual motors generating a powerful 1,086 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and from 100 to 200 km/h in a mere 4.74 seconds, reaching a top speed of 305 km/h. Both configurations are powered by an 83.2 kWh battery, offering an impressive range between 600 and 700 km according to the CLTC cycle, or approximately 510 to 595 km in the WLTP cycle.
Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version is available, featuring a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 156 horsepower, combined with two electric motors for a total output of 270 horsepower. This hybrid option provides an electric range between 145 and 170 km and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
In China, pre-orders for the electric BYD Han L have already begun, with prices ranging from 270,000 to 350,000 yuan, which translates to approximately 34,207 to 44,342 euros. However, if this sedan were to make its way to France, it is likely that the price would start at around 70,000 euros, as the current model, which is technologically outdated, begins at 72,000 euros in the market.
