By the end of 2022, the Poitou associations will have to organize “zero waste” events

No more plastic glasses, make way for recyclable cups. No more thrown in the trash and unnecessary souvenir items. By the end of 2022, all the events organized by the 1300 associations of the city of Poitiers must be “zero waste”. The town hall has just presented this Monday a charter in this sense.

It includes several points, on drinks, dishes, food or packaging. Several points that will have to be respected, including by the sports associations which organize meetings every weekend.

A questionnaire sent in January

But the town hall wants to take its time in order to force the associations to respect this charter, built with the association “Zéro Déchet Poitiers”. At the moment busy with requests for grants, at the beginning of January they will receive a questionnaire, in which they will be able to express their needs to respect the charter, financial difficulties which they could encounter.

The objective of the town hall is also solidarity between associations, in particular through the loan of dishes. “We do not want to impose a charter from above”, explains Chantal Nocquet, municipal councilor responsible for zero waste.
