Ski resorts: by helicopter or sled, rescuer interventions are increasing
Ski resorts: by helicopter or sled, rescuer interventions are increasing – (France 2)
In the Alps, the 20 Hours accompanied the CRS rescuers. They are the ones who come to the aid of skiers in distress. They carry out 10 interventions per day by helicopter. Sled evacuations also take place.
It’s a long day that begins aboard the helicopter, Wednesday February 14. In addition to the pilot and his mechanic, two CRS rescuers and a doctor are on board, heading to Val-d’Isère (Savoie), where a teenager has just fallen in the ski area with a brief loss of consciousness. After 10 minutes, the teenager was picked up by the station’s trackers. He regains consciousness and the first medical examinations are carried out on site to ensure that he can be transported. With great precaution, the teenager is installed on board. He was taken to the nearest hospital, in Bourg-Saint-Maurice (Savoie).
A busy period
The system is reinforced to deal with winter skiing or mountaineering accidents, with two helicopters for two complete teams. The period is busy: the lack of snow in the mid-mountains means that the high altitude resorts are very busy. For accidents that do not require a helicopter, rescue trackers intervene. Cost of evacuation by sled: 600 euros, covered provided you are insured. For State rescue by helicopter, the intervention is free.
