In the Aube, 2 km of waterways have been diverted to redraw the natural bed of a river. We had to convince a farmer to let the river cut his plot again.

A river that winds in the middle of a field, a typical landscape of our countryside. But here the Landion has just returned to its original bed, whereas a few months ago it looked like a straight highway. Behind these major works, experts in the aquatic environment investigated from the Napoleonic land register. “These meanders were removed, removed, and we came to restore them“, summarizes Matthias Alloux, project manager of the mixed union of the watershed of Armançon.

The river lengthened 700 meters by finding its curves. This natural bed promotes biodiversity, it also helps fight against drought and flooding in the surrounding villages. The project was financed by grants to the tune of 320,000 euros. Sylvain Taupin, farmer in Chesley (Aube), took the opportunity to switch his plot to organic, because with the river now cutting it in two, it had become too complicated to grow wheat. 500 hectares have been converted to organic, out of the 800 in the project.
