(Ottawa) Polling stations closed in the four ridings where voters were called upon to choose their MP in by-elections on Monday. The results begin to arrive in the dropper in the middle of the evening.
In the Montreal riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount, Liberal Anna Gainey is in the lead as more than 30% of polling stations have released their results. Ten people wanted to succeed resigning minister Marc Garneau, who announced his retirement last March.
The Liberal Party of Canada also appears to be maintaining its support in Winnipeg South Centre, where Ben Carr, the son of longtime MP Jim Carr, who died last December, is leading the race. A total of 48 candidates were officially listed on the ballot.
The leader of the People’s Party of Canada, Maxime Bernier, is not in the process of winning a seat in the House of Commons. Conservative Brendan Leslie is ahead of him by 3,000 votes as a third of the polling stations delivered their results in this five-way battle in Portage–Lisgar, Manitoba.

In Ontario, Oxford, a largely rural riding in southern Ontario, should remain a Conservative stronghold. Arpan Khanna leads ahead of the Liberal.
Incumbent Conservative Dave MacKenzie announced he was stepping down from his seat in December after winning the 2021 federal election with nearly 47% of the vote.
