” There will be one [élection] partial and a general campaign shortly and I undertake to be present in these two campaigns, because representing the people of Marie-Victorin, it is an honor ”, declared the former federal deputy Pierre Nantel, who describes the Parti Québécois as a “credible” and “trusted” team.

Pierre Nantel became a candidate for the New Democratic Party in 2011, in the riding of Longueuil — Pierre-Boucher. He remained a member of the NDP until 2019. He then moved to the Green Party of Canada in 2019, where he was defeated in the election.

The PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, welcomed this candidacy “who has dedicated several years of his life to the environmental issue”, as well as in “culture and language”.

Mr. Plamondon announced Thursday that he will not be a candidate in the riding of Marie-Victorin. “We are fortunate to have a candidacy truly anchored locally, which participates in the national debate and which embodies exactly what we want to embody, in language, environment and culture,” said the PQ leader in a press conference Sunday morning.

The riding has been vacant since the departure of Catherine Fournier, who was elected mayor of Longueuil.

The riding of Marie-Victorin has been represented by elected members of the Parti Québécois since 1985, but the Coalition Avenir Québec is growing in popularity in the polls.

In 2018, Martyne Prévost ran with the CAQ against PQ MP Catherine Fournier, who was re-elected with a slim lead of 705 votes.

As of 2019, Catherine Fournier sat as an independent MP, until her election as mayor of Longueuil in early November.
