(Québec) The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) is trying to “buy” the by-election in Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne, believes PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.
He was reacting on Tuesday to the appearance in the riding of CAQ election posters bearing the face of Prime Minister François Legault with the words: “Tax cut from 2023”.
The CAQ is becoming a “parody of itself in its ambition to buy the elections”, denounced in a press briefing Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon. He asked the CAQ to stop “infantilizing” the Quebec electorate.
During the last general election, the CAQ promised to send a check to 6.4 million Quebecers – a promise delivered – and to reduce the first two tax brackets by one percentage point in 2023.
“François Legault will campaign in Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne on tax cuts. We, each time, we will specify that they will especially favor the richest in Quebec, ”reacted Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
The parliamentary leader of Quebec solidaire (QS) said that his party would rather campaign on the housing crisis, the environment and inclusion.
The by-election in Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne will be held on March 13. It was made necessary following the departure, on 1er last December, of the former Liberal leader Dominique Anglade.
