By-election in Jean-Talon | Ten candidates will be included on the ballot

(Montreal) Ten candidates were authorized by Élections Québec for the by-election in the riding of Jean-Talon, in the Quebec region.


The period to submit your application ended Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Coalition Avenir Québec, whose MP Joëlle Boutin announced her resignation on July 19 for family and professional reasons, will try to keep the riding in its fold by presenting Marie-Anik Shoiry.

The Quebec Liberal Party is banking on Élise Avard Bernier while Québec solidaire presents Olivier Bolduc, who is in his fifth electoral campaign for the party. Mr. Boutin finished second in the 2022 general election.

The Parti Québécois will be represented by Pascal Paradis.

In addition to the candidates from the four parties represented in the National Assembly, Jesse Robitaille will wear the colors of the Conservative Party of Quebec. The former PQ minister and head of Climat Québec, Martine Ouellet, will try to make a return to the Salon bleu.

Steve Therion, Kadidia Mahamane Bamba and Lucie Perreault will campaign respectively for the Autonomist Team, for the Green Party of Quebec and for Direct Democracy.

An independent candidate is also registered. This is Jean Duval.

The by-election will take place on Monday October 2. Sunday September 24 and Monday September 25 were also allocated to advance voting.

The constituency’s electoral list currently has 46,835 people registered.

In the 2022 general elections, eight candidates competed for the seat in Jean-Talon. Mme Boutin won with 32.50% of the votes and a majority of 2988 votes.

The riding was once a liberal stronghold.

Of the 46,714 registered voters, 73.86% had exercised their right to vote and almost 1% of the ballots had been rejected.
