Some French people buy many products in bulk, abandoning plastic packages, which are less ecological. For customers, opting for this solution also saves money. But does buying in bulk really cost less? In a supermarket, bulk is more attractive for most organic items. Thai rice and oatmeal are cheaper by 0.68 euros and 1.48 euros.
Democratize bulk
“It avoids anything that is a plastic package and then I prefer because we can manage these quantities”, notes a consumer. This way of consuming could become more popular in the coming years. 20% of supermarket surfaces will have to be dedicated to bulk in 2030, the government has set. But according to a consumer specialist, its implementation is proving complex for brands. In addition, the health safety of bulk has already caused it to lose popularity during the pandemic.
