What flowers to buy and at what price for the upcoming holidays? Valentine’s Day to start, tomorrow Monday, February 14. Fanny Guinochet gives you some useful advice.
franceinfo: Fanny, how to please without breaking the bank by offering flowers?
Fanny Guinochet: The cheapest flowers are those you will find in supermarkets, at Auchan, Franprix, Monoprix, or even Lidl, you have boots, often at the entrance to shops. Around 4-5 euros for a small bunch of tulips or roses, the prices are unbeatable. Because these signs play on large volumes.
Disadvantage all the same, you do not have the choice of the composition, and often the proposals are rather limited. And then these flowers are imported, with a heavy carbon footprint, they are rarely seasonal flowers.
Another solution, chains of florists, like Monceau Fleurs, a little more expensive, but the prices are attractive because there too, they buy in droves. Difference however, you can have a composition, the florist can mix bouquets, pack them to offer.
Finally, think of the florist in the markets. More choice but a little more expensive, however you may be able to negotiate the price with the seller, at the end of the market for example, on Sunday, and obtain a small discount.
And for deliveries?
There are giant brands, such as Interflora, Aquarelle, or even Bergamotte. A typical bouquet is between 30 and 40 euros all inclusive. But, to lower the bill, see your neighborhood florist, or call the one in your recipient’s area: some deliver at a reasonable price, within their area.
By playing on proximity, you normally reduce costs. You should know that delivery on a bouquet is between 10 and 15 euros. Often it is presented as offered, but that means that the florist, necessarily, margins elsewhere, on something else.
And there are brands that value proximity?
Yes, like Fleurs d’ici, an online platform that delivers ethical flowers everywhere in France, promoting local employment, or Monsieur Marguerite also delivers eco-responsible, greener flowers.
Attention, it is a little more expensive, but you will make live the French sector. Moreover, there is a “Collectif de la fleur française”, an association which lists, throughout the territory, the artisan florists who undertake to produce French products, and therefore to give pride of place to seasonal flowers. Roses, for example, are not found in the middle of February in France!
So, to your lover or lover, offer mimosa or ranunculus instead!
