The Citadel of Besançon, one of the symbols of Franche-Comté
Place of barracks, training of Cadets, future officers of the Sun King, prison or military penitentiary, the Vauban citadel is built at the end of the 17th centuryin a territory newly acquired by France.
Built 100 meters above the city, with walls over 15 meters in places, 600 meters of walkway, 11 hectares, and a secret gallery, but why build it here? Who was there before, in this place?
Gaëlle Cavalli, head of the Valuation department at the Citadelle Vauban, tells us about its birth.
